Compost Queen is proud to partner with the City of Fort Collins to offer a Food Waste Composting Pilot Program for residences and businesses. Together, we will be collecting data on adoption rates, pricing models, collection volumes, processing needs and more. Participants will receive up to 12 months of discounted service from Compost Queen for drop off, home pickup or commercial composting in exchange for completing two surveys.
Qualified applicants must be new customers residing in Fort Collins or operating a business in Fort Collins in good standing with the City.
Get a $15 monthly discount on residential services or any $80 monthly discount on commercial services.
Applications start on September 25th until full, with service starting between October 13th and October 24th, 2025. Ends October 2026.
Pay a one time start up fee to apply. Applicants will be selected on a first come, first served basis until the program is full.

No! Empty your food scraps often and we take care of the rest. Curbside service gets a Queen Clean on every visit, including a wipe down with vinegar and a towel plus a fresh compostable bag liner.
No! We use certified compostable bags, and you can too in your countertop collection. We simply ask you don’t tie them closed, as we inspect all contents for contamination like fruit stickers, twist ties and rubber bands.
We have biweekly service, in which we will come empty your bucket every other week. Our 4 gallon buckets hold about 25 pounds of food waste. Households with 3 or more, home cooks, or avid gardeners should consider getting 2 buckets.
We offer compost shares to our members twice a year, typically in the Spring (April) and Autumn (November). Members can come collect up to a cubic foot of complimentary compost at our processing location.
Members get up to a cubic foot of compost twice a year. Compost is a soil amendment, and we don’t recommend more than 20% in soil blends or more than a half inch top dressing. Food waste compost is much more nutritionally dense than yard waste compost.
Over seven years of collecting food scraps has taught us that residences don’t need weekly service. Your scraps stay sealed in our snap tight green buckets and we wipe them clean on every service.
If you’re convinced you need weekly service, check out our drop site program where you can come as often or as little as you need.
We have a drop site at our headquarters on North College for curbside members who miss pickups. You can access it and skip service any time.
Great, we can offer additional curbside buckets for $10 more per month, or handle a spare bucket on any pickup for $5.
The City of Fort Collins has partnered with Compost Queen to deliver a Food Waste Composting Pilot Program in order to collect data on organics resource management.
The program is funded through the $.10 bag fee collected as a part of the City’s Disposable Bag Ordinance. These funds are earmarked for sustainable initiatives and not part of the General Fund.

Compost Queen is a woman owned Public Benefit Corporation founded in 2018. We’re on a mission to take climate action through food waste recycling – a movement known as Community Composting.

Our headquarters location at the Back Gate Farm uses Covered Aerated Static Pile (CASP) Composting to rapidly accelerate decomposition, retain moisture and reduce odors. This lets us achieve industrial grade composting standards on a small scale, serving the needs of the nearby community.
Our dedication to providing an excellent service has even won us some awards, like the United States Composting Council Small Compost Manufacturer of the Year Award and a Larimer County Environmental Stewardship Award.
