Compost Queen makes high quality food scrap compost in Fort Collins, Colorado. Our meticulous attention to detail and quality control, plus small scale operations, let us make a craft compost product unlike many others on the market.
As the winner of Small Compost Manufacturer of the Year from the United States Composting Council, we often sell out of finished compost in the Spring and Fall.
We make three products through our hot, aerobic composting process: 1/4″ Screened Compost, Composted Mulch and Compost Tea. All products are rich in microbial activity, increase soil water retention and provide valuable nutrients and organic matter to your soil.
Cubic foot bags of our finished compost are available at Fort Collins Nursery, but we also offer bagged and bulk compost pickup and delivery here in Fort Collins and Northern Colorado.

This is the creme de la creme of our process – a mature, stable compost that is rich in nutrients and microbiology. Made in small batches and best if used as a top dressing, or mixed in to soils at no more than twenty percent by volume.

This product is ideal for trees, shrubs and raised bed covers – or even xeriscaping. With a higher fungal content than our screened compost, this material includes large wood chips, bones, shells and more from our screening process.

Actively aerated compost tea is a microbially rich liquid intended to increase soil microbiology. We brew this on demand in our 250 gallon brewer, so we can meet the demand of your project. Best applied in 24 hours or less after brewing.

We’ve got the equipment to make short work of heavy lifting. We charge $75 an hour for application services, including compost spreading, compost tea spraying and application and mulch spreading. Reach out through the form below to plan your project!
You can't take compost out. Never exceed 20% compost by volume in soil blends or 3 inches top dressing. Effective at 5% and a half inch.
Where there's water, there's life. Soil is no different, and compost helps increase water retention in our native clay soils.
Use compost amendments three to four times a year to build organic matter and strong soils that support healthy plants.

Young seedlings can be fragile, and often have everything they need for the first few weeks of life – even in nutrient deficient soil. Blend 5% compost by volume in seed starting mixes.

About a month before planting outdoors, add a healthy inch to the tops of planters or beds, dress lawns and add compost to the bottom of any holes you dig.

In early July, give your plants a nutrient boost to enhance fruit production and flowering. Slow release phosphorus from compost helps plants thrive!

The BEST time to apply compost. Go heavy with two or more inches amended into your garden to restore soil nutrients and catalyze decomposition and soil regeneration.

Don’t leave your soil exposed to the elements! Consider using composted mulch to keep moisture locked in and organic matter where it belongs – in your garden!

Actively aerated compost tea is the quickest way to add microbial diversity to your soil and plants, boosting the rhizophagy cycle and enhancing nutrient cycling.
