POSITION: Compost Queen Farmers Market Representative

2 Positions Open for 2024 season

About the Company:

Compost Queen PBC is a family-owned and operated compost hauling and processing business based in Fort Collins, CO. We market our compost service as well as run a drop off location for community food scraps at local farmers markets. We have a passion for waste diversion, composting, and contributing to a greener and healthier community throughout Northern Colorado. This position is great for anyone wanting to earn some extra cash this summer while becoming part of our incredible Compost Queen team. The markets are extremely fun and you will meet lots of great people each day while enjoying the Colorado sunshine. We have up to 2 open positions for this role. 

About the Role:

Title: Compost Queen Farmers Market Representative

This a part-time, seasonal employee position

  • You will be responsible for the Larimer County Farmers Market on Saturdays and the Fort Collins Farmers Market on Sundays. 
  • You must have availability on every Saturday from 7:30am – 1:30pm and every Sunday from 8:30am-2:30pm from May-mid November.
  • This is a great opportunity to connect with the local Fort Collins community and contribute to a greener community.
  • There is opportunity for career growth within the company as we have many other events throughout the year, as well as potential to help with day-to-day operations.
  • This is a seasonal position, starting in May and going through November with the potential to do more events throughout the winter season or help with day-to-day operations going forward.
  • You will be the primary representative at the booth, working alone or managing 1-2 helpers as needed.
  • Compensation of $15/hour plus a 10% commission per new customer sign up during the event (average of $2.50 per customer).

 

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive a 18’ box truck. No CDL required.
  • Must have the capacity to transport market set-up equipment including a 10’ by 10’ collapsible standup tent, 65 gallon rolling bins, folding tables, weights for tent, and other market materials 
  • Able to tend a cash box as well as electronic payments
  • Able to lift 50 lbs and able to stand at the booth for 6+ hour long shifts
  • Able to set up and break down the market booth before and after the market and during rainy, windy, and other inclement weather conditions
  • Must have a friendly personality and the ability to maintain a positive attitude for a 6+ hour market shift
  • Must be able to make sales of compost services and products to the public efficiently and effectively in a friendly and kind manner
  • Must have a well-groomed and neat appearance

 

Responsibilities:

  • Setting up, operating, and breaking down the Compost Queen booth at farmer’s markets
  • Setting up and managing drop-off bins
  • Transporting product, rolling carts, and market materials to and from the headquarters in North Fort Collins and to/from the applicable market
  • Responsible for all products, marketing materials, and drop-off materials
  • Responsible for weighing and reporting drop-off bin weights and ond other reporting metrics
  • Using sales skills to make sales to farmer’s market customers and educating customers about Compost Queen and our services
  • Supporting any other sales associates during their market shift
  • Being courteous, friendly, and kind with all customers, team members, other vendors, and market coordinators and staff
  • Collecting and safeguarding all cash until it is deposited in the designated manner
  • Completing the inventory and sales summary sheet before the completion of market shift.
  • Communicating by text or call with the business owner about any market needs including (market equipment, product needs, staffing needs, and any other support)
  • Completing all agreed upon market shifts through the season to receive the commission bonus

 

Expectations:

  • Arrive to markets with a clean and professional appearance adhering to the dress code standard
  • Arrive on time – picking up supplies and products from headquarters ahead of markets and arriving at markets at least one hour prior to start time
  • Follow operational procedures as documented in operations manual
  • Have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and to work hard
  • Manage breaks and booth coverage during markets

POSITION: Compost Technician

About Compost Queen PBC

Compost Queen PBC (Public Benefit Corporation) provides composting services across Northern Colorado for homes, businesses, and events. We are currently seeking to grow our customer base, service area, and service team.

Compost Queen PBC currently offers services in Fort Collins, Wellington, Laporte and Timnath, and our compost processing facilities are in Fort Collins. These towns would be your primary dispatch locations, however expansion to new cities is possible.

Job Description

Compost Queen seeks candidates interested in sustainability, environmental protection, and soil science to help conduct our composting service. Job primarily consists of driving a service route for our residential accounts, and processing the food scraps picked up at one of our processing facilities located on farms. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs of contained material is required. Ability to drive a tractor is required (previous tractor experience is not required but useful). 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collection, counting, and weighing of compost buckets
  • Processing compostable ingredients on a farm
  • Cleaning compost buckets
  • Quality control and record keeping
  • Engaging with potential customers
  • Must be willing to grow with us!

Requirements

  • Must be 18+
  • Must have valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Must be able to work 3 days (shifts) per week 8am-4pm.
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry short distances up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to learn how to operate a tractor (previous tractor operation experience a plus)
  • Must be able to tolerate all different types of smells
  • Responsibility to work on your own

Compensation starts at $15/hour+ (after training period), DOE

This position will start as 1-3 shifts per week, part-time. Potential to grow to more shifts is highly desirable.
